Thoughts: From Recent Sermons And Studies

If you want to understand Christianity you begin with the wounds. This is why 1/4 of Matthew, 1/3 of Mark and Lube and 1/2 of John focus on the death of Christ.

It is only by grace that we can fear God.

The Christian life is anything but passive. So if you are being passive as a Christian; stop it!

We are not asking them to come visit a perfect church but to worship a perfect creator.

Give and give wholeheartedly, yet know you are giving inadequately. Give knowing it is only through Christ that our mere gifts are made acceptable.

What does it mean to say that worship is the overflow of our hearts, what does it look like in action?

We have gone from being asleep in the hand of the devil to being awake in the kingdom of new life. Though now we are saved we are more aware of the dangers that our sins were going to lead us.

Don't fall in love with the shadow when the real thing is on offer.

Leadership - not to make all the decisions or to do all the work but more to make sure all the decisions get made and to see that the work gets done.

The only thing I contribute to my salvation are the sins from which I must be saved.

We are unlovable yet God, to us, is so loving; and God is so lovable and we are, yet to Him, unloving.

If God gave it to you maybe it was just because He didn't want it.

Don't laugh! Yes you are meant to have joy, but keep it deep.

'I just want to thank you for your sermon'
'NO NO! Please thank God.'
'Well actually it wasn't that good.'

Years of being with Jesus and Peter is still carrying a sword.
'No Peter! Don't chop peoples ear off. How will they hear the Gospel.'

Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the serpent. And the serpent didn't have a leg to stand on.

The trouble with a rat race is that even if you win you're still just a rat.

It seems like when he opens his mouth he's only making room for his other foot.

Temptation doesn't usually just knock once, it tends to lean on the doorbell.

Sometimes when we do flee from temptation we leave a forwarding address.

Save the world, it's the only planet in the universe that has chocolate.
