Arabian horses are world famous for being the best trained horses with no equal. The horse trainers spend months if not years training the best of their horses to the best of standards in strength and in obedience. Intense and vigorous training day after day, week after week until they finally believe the horse is ready for an owner.
But there is one final test they put the horse through to test it's obedience, an ultimate test that will let the trainers know for sure whether the horse is ready or not.
What they do is deprive the horse of water for days till it's want to drink is overwhelmingly strong. Then they open the gate to the area where the horse was confined and naturally the horse begins to race towards the nearby brook to drink. But just as the horse draws near, within strides, to the water the trainers signal it to return to them. Some continue and quench their thirst ignoring the trainers calling, yet there are some that at the instant of hearing their trainer turn round and race back to them suppressing their want, maybe even their need, for water. Only the ones who return instantly are deemed ready.
Where does our level of obedience stand in comparison? What have we given up? What have we ever sacrificed that was worth much to us? There are things that we even need that we may have to put off to follow God wholeheartedly, without hesitation. But then He will reward us with true freedom and deem us acceptable in His son the Christ.
